Privacy policy.
Nibling is a small macOS menu-bar companion. This policy describes the information it uses to make the Room, Journal, and Sunday Letter feel personal.
Effective .
The short version
The developer receives no pet data through the app. Nibling has no account system, app analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking, and there is no Nibling cloud service that receives pet data. Its privacy manifest declares an empty set of collected data types and no tracking.
Local signals
Nibling processes a small set of signals on your Mac so the pet can respond to its day. Each signal has its own toggle in Settings, and the app uses the value rather than the underlying content.
- Battery level, charging state, and battery health.
- Thermal state, which is not a temperature sensor, and CPU load.
- Network reachability, not traffic content or browsing history.
- Idle duration, not input content, and disk capacity, not file contents.
- Uptime, the output-audio playing flag, sleep/wake and screen-lock state, and Low Power Mode.
Nibling does not access a camera or microphone, record audio, log keystrokes, or read messages, documents, or browsing history.
What is stored
The pet name and identity, moods and memories, Journal entries, Sunday Letters, settings, and the known Mac model and platform UUID are stored locally. The device identifier and model help a restored pet recognise a Mac; they are part of the pet data, not a tracking service.
Optional iCloud backup
When available through your macOS iCloud settings, Nibling can use optional iCloud Drive backup with your Apple account. A usable local pet takes priority. If there is no usable local pet, the app may restore an existing backup. Availability depends on your macOS iCloud settings, and an existing backup may not be available after every new Mac or reinstall scenario. The local pet state described above, including the known Mac model and platform UUID, is included in that pet backup.
Notifications
Notifications are optional and local. The Settings toggle is labelled “Notify me about letters and milestones”. Turning it on asks macOS for alert and sound authorisation. The resulting notifications are Sunday Letter and milestone notices, not marketing.
